the Art Handler's Olympics

(stolen from nytimes.com)

Art Handlers are a sort of unsung heroes of the art world. These guys (usually, women too) are the ones who pack art to be shipped, help install it, schlep it all over the world. A painting doesn't magically transport and hang itself and these are the guys who take the special care to make sure these valuable, often irreplaceable things travel safely. They're often people (and I am generalizing) who are artists in their own right, doing the job for insurance, etc.

I was quite amused to read about the Art Handler's Olympics which took place on the Lower East Side last weekend. Click here to read the article in the Times and to see some great photos of the event.
